As exciting as it is, have you read about the latest Indonesia’s government regulations regarding the health quarantine upon international arrival?
It is highly advised to check the regulations before you actually book plane tickets and accommodations (otherwise you might lose some $$$, honey). Ease of regulations for vaccinated travellers are not yet established. Until this article is written, the point of entry to Indonesia for international flights is only through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta.
To sum it up, here are the rules :
As of April 23rd, 2021 Indonesia forbids the entry of foreign nationals who have been present in India at any time in the 14 days prior to their arrival in Indonesia. Indonesian citizens from India are still allowed to enter but with a 14 days of mandatory health quarantine.
A negative COVID-19 result by RT-PCR test in which the sample is obtained within 3 x 24 hours before departure. The document must be printed in English. You should also fill out the Indonesian Health Alert Card (e-HAC https://inahac.kemkes.go.id/ or download the app on your phone). These documents will be checked upon arrival.
Two additional COVID-19 RT-PCR should be done after you enter Indonesia at your own expense. The 1st one is upon your arrival, the second is at the end of the 5 x 24 hours period of quarantine.
If one of the additional tests is positive, travellers will be admitted to the hospital. Indonesian citizens' medical bills will be all covered by the government. Foreigners’ medical bills will be at their own expense or covered by sponsor.
The mandatory health quarantine period is 5 x 24 hours :
For Indonesian citizens with the following criteria :
Government officials with official international travel
Health quarantine is located at Wisma Atlet Pademangan with all bills covered by the government.
For Indonesian citizens outside the criteria mentioned above and all foreigners (except the head of representatives and their family), health quarantine should be completed in government designated hotels at their own expense.
Here’s the list of government designated hotel in Jakarta for health quarantine: Designated Quarantine Hotel List
You can contact the designated hotel of your choice for room rates and facilities prior to arrival. Fret not, you can also make a reservation at the airport on arrival. An official government quarantine release document will be issued at the end of your quarantine. You can continue your domestic journey afterwards. It is advised to do a self isolation of 14 days at the end of your destination.
Please pay attention to domestic flight regulations, Bali in particular. Updates about Bali’s domestic arrival health protocol can be seen through the airport’s Instagram account @baliairport or by contacting your airline.
The latest Bali’s domestic arrival regulation as of May 25th, 2021 is that you should have a health certificate of negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test or rapid antigen test, issued within a maximum period of 2 x 24 hours before departure or a negative test result of GeNose C19 no later than 1 x 24 hours before departure. GeNose C19 service test is available at some departure airports. Children under 5 years old are not required to do the test.
The head of foreign representatives and their family can self quarantine at their own residences.
6. Health quarantine exemption applies to foreigners with diplomatic visas and official visas regarding their official/ ministerial state visits and foreigners that enter Indonesia through the Travel Corridor Arrangement.
7. Health protocols such as wearing a face mask at public places and transportations, hand hygiene, coughing/ sneezing ethics and physical distancing measures should be followed at all times. Don’t even try to fool the security guard with a face paint mask or other ignorant stunts. Fines and other penalties may apply for violations of the protocols, including deportation for foreigners.
Bali was supposed to open its international airport by welcoming the direct flight from Singapore by Singapore Airlines on May 4th, 2021. However, due to the surge of India, Pakistan and Philippines’ COVID-19 cases, it was postponed until further notice.
Bali’s tourism industry was very disappointed at this major setback. We are longing for a brighter light that is long overdue at the end of this pandemic tunnel! Empty streets of Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Canggu, Ubud are heart wrenching. We even miss the standstill traffic on the Sunset Road, the falls on the infamous Canggu shortcut and people having the time of their lives partying from sunset til sunrise at beach clubs and nightclubs.
The government already is preparing Bali for tourists by prioritising COVID-19 vaccinations for tourism workers. Hopefully, the border restrictions will be eased soon and Bali can get back on her feet again. We can’t wait to meet you at the beach with coconuts and cold Bintangs (on us!).
Again, above all, please stay safe and healthy.
Regulations may change without further notice. This article cannot be used as an official reference. You should ask your airline or embassy for updates and/or other instructions.
